STEPS TO DO

Step 1: Go to Anabin, then to Institutionen. Check the Anabin status of your university in Germany (H+ or H- or H+/-)
If your inversity isn't recognized or just partly recognized (H- or H+/-), do the steps given in Additional Issues (s. below);
Step 2: Go to Anabin, then to Abschlüsse (Degrees)*. Find the exact match of your degree.
If your degree is missing or formulated in different way as in your diploma, very likely you need the Diploma evaluation by ZAB (German federal organisation, part of KMK;
Step 3: Prepare evidence of your English (or German if applicable) skills;
Step 4: check your Financal Security in form of:
Plan A: €10.236 placed in your blocked account in Germany, OR:
Plan B: confirmation of receipt of a grant (Stipendium), OR:
Plan C: guarantee letter of a person with sufficient creditworthiness.

Go to Hochschulkompass website.

Step 1: decide which subject(s) you want to study;
Step 2: proceed advanced search by Hochschulkompass;
Step 3: list the prospect universities. Then shortlist them. Befor shortlisting find out more about them.
Step 4: in every university checke the following:
3.1: Study Mode,
3.2: Mode of Admission,
3.3: Admission semester,
3.4: Tuition Fee,
3.5: Location,
3.6: Contact information;

Step 1: summarise your questions to the particular university. Prepare a request letter;
Step 2: send your personal request;
Step 3: in the answer from the university it will be clear whether your contact person is still the particular university or UniAssist
Option University: find out what documents you need for studying at this university and what conditions you have to fulfil OR:
Option UniAssist: on its website learn the list of necessary documents according to your situation.
Step 4: Find out on the website of the particular university(ies) or on the Uni-Assist page which language certificates are required;
Step 5: send your personal request;
What next: After you have received answers from the universities or from UniAssist, select the universities you want to attend. This is your shortlist.
You can apply to several universities at the same time.

Step 2: ignore the private companies in the search results. Go to the government portals;
Step 3: on the overview page find something like Make an appointment online. Get there;
Step 4: select number of family members which arrived with you. If you are single, select 1 person;
Step 5: choose a free date on the online calendar;
Step 6: if there are no open dates, either check online daily or hire Migwork.
Step 7: if there are open dates, chose the date and time. Enter your personal data;
Step 8: check your inbox and find the email with the confirmation link. Confirm the binding reservation of your appointment. Check the email with the final confirmation. Print it. Add it to the documents that you will take with you.

Step 1: book the appointment for your registration in advance.
If there are no available dates within two weeks, book the earliest possible date.
Step 2: find via google and download the registration form {CITY}{insert your city in Germany};
If you won't find it in English, then google that: meldeschein {CITY}
Step 3: fill out the registration form (Meldeschein);
Step 4: appear punctually in the registration office. Proceed the registration;
If you are more than one person (e.g. a family) come all together.

Note 1: The registration office can have different names according to the Federal State (Anwohnermeldeamt, Meldebehörde, Bürgeramt, KVR etc.);
Note 2: You can authorize another person to represent you while the registration appointment;

Processing time: immediately (if sticker in passport) or 4-6 weeks (if settlement permit is issued in the form of plastic card).
